Around 80 doctoral students at the Department of Environemntal Sciences (DUW) conduct research in various fields of environmental sciences as part of their doctoral studies. We see this diversity in research fields as a strength, and starting from 2026, we foster synergies through a structured PhD program. The PhD Program Environmental Sciences offers interdisciplinary training on current and innovative research concepts across a broad spectrum of research fields, ranging from integrative biology to earth sciences.
The PhD Program introduces students to state-of-the-art research techniques, including a diverse array of workshops on bio- and geoinformatics, statistical methods, machine learning and artificial intelligence in the environmental sciences.
The goal of the program is to provide optimal preparation for a career in science, whether at academic institutions, government agencies, NGOs or industry.
