External courses

You can attend courses offered by external providers, such as other universities, research institutes, and other organisations, including both on-site and online courses. By agreement with your supervisor, you can get ECTS points (1 ECTS = 30 hours) for such courses. If you completed a course at another university, it is enough to submit the course certificate stating the recommended number of credit points or the effort in hours, signed by your supervisor, to the Dean's Office. For courses offered by other institutions (not universities), a learning contract has to be created in Unibas Services.

Did you find an external course that you would like to attend and that your supervisor agreed on, but that requires an admission fee? Contact the PhD office directly to discuss whether admission fees could be covered by the PhD program.

Mobility support

PhD students of the PhD program Environmental Sciences may receive travel reimbursement for attending up to a maximum of two external courses in Switzerland during their PhD (i.e. return train ticket  2nd class with Halbtax from Basel as the usually defined place of work/employment).
