The Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center (PSC) offers two PhD programs - Plant Sciences and Science and Policy - that PhD students from the University of Basel can participate in.
Please consult the links below to learn more about the topics and admission requirements for these programs.
Upcoming PSC events are also listed below.
As a student enrolled in one of the PSC PhD programs, your PhD journey will look similar to the one of students enrolled in the PhD program Environmental Sciences, but there are also some important differences.
The general process of enrollement at the University of Basel, the yearly committee meetings and documentation thereof and the process of graduation are the same.
For more information on these topics, please refer to the following pages on our website: Start your PhD journey, Complete your PhD Journey, Frequently Asked Questions
The minimum amount of ECTS points to grauduate is also 18 ECTS as for the PhD program Environmental Sciences.
The two PhD programs from the PSC both have their own curricula, including different compulsory and elective activities. For the detailed curricula, please consult the links on the right side of this page.
Important: Both PSC programs follow a 12 ECTS structure, but students from the University of Basel must acquire 18 ECTS in total. However, of the 18 required ECTS, only 12 ECTS must follow the PhD program structure outlined in the table, while 6 ECTS may be obtained freely from other relevant academic activities that are accepted by the University of Basel.
These activities can include courses from the course catalogue of the University of Basel (for example, courses offered by the PhD Program Environmental Sciences) and courses or activities accredited via Learning Contracts. A list of academic activities that the Faculty of Science of the University of Basel awards ECTS points for can be found in the Guidelines PDF document that can be downloaded from their PhD Studies Website.
PSC courses that take place in Basel and that are listed in the official UNIBAS course catalogue are also directly listed on our website under the course catalogue.
For other courses offered by the PSC, please consult the Plant Sciences and Science and Policy course catalogues and register using the ETH registration platform (select Plant Sciences from the drop-down menu at the top).
Once you have graduated and you have received your PhD Diploma from the University of Basel, you can then request your PSC certificate. Please consult the current information given on the PSC PhD program websites on how to do this.
